The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has released the list of 29 qualified international oil and gas companies that the country will allow to bid for oil and gas projects using the new Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC) model.

The announcement was made on the oil ministry news website SHANA in which NIOC said it was planning to put to a round of upstream oil and gas projects up for tenders for the 29 companies to bid for

The list of pre-qualified firms included Shell, France's Total, Italy's Eni, Malaysia's Petronas, Spain’s CEPSA, Austria’s OMV and Russia's Gazprom and Lukoil, as well as companies from China, India, Poland, Thailand, Japan and other countries.

Two notable absentees from the invited list are UK’s BP and Norway’s Statoil.

Iran hopes its new IPC will attract foreign investors and boost production after years of sanctions.
