Eni has announced that it has put in place a number of immediately operational activities to support those in the front line of the current emergency fighting against the coronavirus.

The Italian firm has so far committed €30 million to the fight against coronavirus across all activities.

The company is the only partner of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS as the COVID 2 Hospital in Rome (formerly the private Ospedale Columbus) is set up. The Hospital will be exclusively devoted to treating patients suffering from coronavirus and have 130 beds, including 50 intensive care beds.

In Milan meanwhile, Eni is working with Ospedale IRCCS Luigi Sacco to set up a new Emergency Room devoted to infectious diseases. In Pavia, together with Ospedale San Matteo, Eni is helping to set up a high-level isolation unit inside the infectious diseases department.

Together with IRCCS Policlinico di San Donato, Eni is ensuring the provision of medical equipment such as monitors for resuscitation units and personal protection equipment.

Eni is also funding public information campaigns. One campaign has been planned with the Italian Federation of General Practitioners, and is focused on the role of the family doctor as the first point of contact for citizens concerned about COVID-19. Another campaign in production aims to inform elderly people about the services they can access to continue their lives as normally as possible while they have been asked to stay at home.

Finally, the company is in the process of finalising its partnerships with CNR Institute for Complex Systems and with Istituto Superiore di Sanità to use the calculation and modeling capability of its HPC5 supercomputing system, among the most powerful in the world, for medical research related to infectious diseases.

In addition to these projects, Eni is also studying and discussing a number of further initiatives around the country.
