Global energy trade association, the Energy Industries Council (EIC), has announced the appointment of Ryan McPherson as its new Middle East director, based at its regional headquarters in Dubai.
McPherson brings over 10 years of oil and gas industry experience to his new role at the EIC, as well as a deep understanding of the Middle East industry and a strong business network in the UAE and GCC states having spent the last eight years based in Abu Dhabi and travelling widely in the region.
He joins the EIC from oil and gas water treatment solutions specialist ProSep where he led the company’s Middle East operations as general manager, working out of Abu Dhabi.
Prior to ProSep, he was the Middle East and APAC regional director for the Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF), an Abu Dhabi membership organisation which supports oil and gas product and service companies to bring new technologies to market.
Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, McPherson holds an MBA in Oil and Gas Management from the Robert Gordon University.
McPherson takes the reins from Terry Willis who is now retiring after heading up the EIC’s Dubai office for 15 years.
McPherson said: “I am delighted to be joining the EIC and look forward to building on the tremendous job that Terry and his team have achieved over the years. Having long admired the work carried out by the EIC and the tangible impact that it continues to deliver for its members, I will continue to build on this success putting their needs at the forefront of everything I do, helping to maximise their potential in what continues to be one of the most exciting regions to do business.’
Terry Willis said, ‘After spending over 30 years in the region and having had the pleasure to establish and grow the EIC’s Middle East office, I feel that the time is now right for me to hang up my boots and hand the baton over to the next generation. I’ve known Ryan for a number of years and couldn’t have wished for a more competent and well qualified successor. I wish him well for the future.’
EIC CEO Stuart Broadley added, ‘With global energy opportunities taking off again, the EIC has growth in our sights for the Middle East and Africa region, and so we are delighted to welcome Ryan on board to drive this growth. He has a great blend of leadership experience across the Middle East region in the energy sector, within both commercial and not-for-profit businesses. Meanwhile, we say a very fond farewell to Terry Willis who retires after 30 years in the region and who originally set up the EIC office and has grown our membership ten-fold in the region since then. He is hugely respected and warmly regarded across the region and will be missed.”
