Shell Egypt announced the appointment of Khaled Kacem as the new vice president Upstream, country chairman and managing director for Egypt, replacing Gasser Hanter.
Kacem will commence his new post as of May 2019. Until then, Hanter will remain in his current role as VP Egypt and will be available to assist with the transition.
Kacem has over 27 years of experience in executive management, JV management, operations and project engineering management.
The Tunisian engineer joined BG group in 1998 and has held a variety of leadership positions in Tunisia, UK and Egypt. Kacem has a track record of delivering excellence as well as adding value and growth in complex assets in the Oil & Gas sector.
Prior to this role, Kacem was the VP and country chairman of Shell Tunisia Upstream Ltd since May 2016 after Royal Dutch Shell’s integration with BG Group earlier in the year. He has occupied the position of president and asset general manager of BG Egypt after being the general manager and managing director of Rashpetco.
Prior to Shell and BG Group, Kacem worked for six years in a joint-venture company in Tunisia conducting operations on behalf of the NOC and Elf Aquitaine.
He holds a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a management diploma from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in the UK.
Shell Egypt has recently been awarded five blocks at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) 2018 international bid rounds, making it one of the most important recent achievements by the company.
With his new appointment, Kacem is set to start a new leg of the journey, which will help reinforce Shell’s 108-year long-standing position and history in the Egyptian market.
Shell’s joint ventures – Badr Eldin Petroleum Company (Bapetco) and Rashid Petroleum Company (Rashpetco) have contributed in achieving an increase in production rates, as well as positioning the company a key player in the Oil & Gas sector. Reflecting Shell’s strategy and commitment to support the Egyptian Oil and Gas sector and its Modernization Program, the company has commenced Bapetco modernization project, in partnership with the EGPC.
