Recent developments and discoveries in the offshore Eastern Mediterranean gas industry, specifically the Levant Basin, are providing significant opportunities for companies that can offer products capable of withstanding harsh environments.

Large new gas discoveries in the region have been estimated to hold as much as 122 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in total and are attracting the interest of international operators and service providers keen to exploit these opportunities.

However, conditions are harsh, meaning that products have to be robust enough to withstand a range of challenges, including corrosion and fatigue.

Sandvik’s range of products for the upstream oil and gas industry are ideally suited for the manufacture of subsea infrastructure to be used in such challenging conditions.

Our company, which develops and produces advanced stainless steels, special alloys, titanium and other high-performance materials, has been heavily involved in the successful delivery of several major projects in the Levant Basin.

The scope of work for Sandvik has involved the company supplying several thousand kilometres of Sandvik SAF 2507® umbilical tubing, Sandvik Sanicro® 28 – a high-alloy high strength austenitic stainless steel for OCTG downhole production tubing, and downhole control lines and chemical injection lines in seamless Alloy 625 (Sanicro™ 60) and Alloy 825 (Sanicro™ 41).

Sandvik SAF 2507® is a super-duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel for service in highly corrosive conditions. The grade is characterised by excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride-bearing environments, pitting and crevice corrosion and general corrosion

It also has a very high mechanical strength, physical properties that offer design advantages, high resistance to erosion corrosion and corrosion fatigue, and good weldability – all of which make it ideal for use in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Sanicro™ 60 is a high strength, austenitic nickel-chromium alloy that exhibits excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, intergranular corrosion and is virtually immune to SCC in chloride containing environments. Alloy 825 is an industry standard material with high mechanical strength and corrosion-resistant properties that are cost-efficient.

At Sandvik, we have the expertise, imagination and courage it takes to set new industry standards. Our ideas are always driven by our understanding of customers and their businesses. We have the passion to shape the future not only in terms of technology but also in terms of service, people management and profitable growth.

We’ll be at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2018, November 12-15, where our booth at stand 3220 will showcase our wide range of tube products, including hydraulic and instrumentation tubing, heat exchanger and high temperature tubing, control lines, umbilical tubing and OCTG tubing.
