Phongsthorn Thavisin was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) and a member of the company’s board of directors since October 2018, bringing over 30 years of oil & gas exploration and production industry leadership to move forward the company on the path of sustainable growth.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, USA, Phongsthorn commenced his career as a Production Engineer at Unocal Thailand in 1985, and joined PTTEP as a Facilities Engineer in 1989. Ever since, Phongsthorn has been the driving force behind several PTTEP’s key milestone including the development of Bongkot Gas Field, a vital source of energy supply to Thailand, in which he became the first Thai national to assume the position of Bongkot Field Manager and led a successful operatorship transfer from TOTAL in 1998.

Phongsthorn’s contributions not only secure petroleum reserves to ensure long-term sustainability, but also lead PTTEP to become a globally-recognized company. His roles revolve around the development of new projects both domestically and internationally, among others:

• International Asset Developments in Vietnam, Algeria, Iran and Oman, particularly the Oman block 44 Shams gas field.

• As the Senior Vice President of Engineering and Construction Division, he was responsible for the planning and execution of all construction and modification projects and also the oversight for major construction project of Zawtika Gas Field development in Myanmar.

• As the Executive Vice President of the Development and Engineering Group, he was responsible for the oversight of engineering and technology, Greenfield Project development, Brownfield Construction projects, global engineering specification within PTTEP and other corporate engineering support.

• As the Chief Executive Officer, he led PTTEP to sign PSCs for Bongkot and Erawan gas fields to establish energy security for Thailand, acquire both Murphy Oil Corporation’s business in Malaysia to strengthen long-term growth in Southeast Asia and Partex Holding to grow strong foothold in the Middle East as well as spin off AI & Robotics Ventures as a new business to support E&P activities.

• In response to industry challenges, he has driven “Transformation” focusing on digitalization to enhance competitiveness across E&P value chain, and laid a foundation for PTTEP to become an agile organization.

• On a global level, he served as a director for the Northern Asia Pacific region in Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) international Board from 2016 to 2018.

Since joining BCG in 2008, Mirko has worked extensively with international and national oil companies in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe on projects related to strategy, operations, and organization, both in upstream and downstream.

His experience has also covered refining and retail across a wide range of topics, including long-range refining and marketing strategy, scenario planning, value chain optimization, refining and petrochemical integration, fuel retail strategy, and international expansions in emerging markets.

In addition, Mirko has partnered with a wide range of clients on mergers and acquisitions, including target screening and due diligence, as well as the preparation of initial public offerings and the design and management of joint ventures.

Prior to joining BCG, Mirko worked for Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) as a Project Manager.

Paul McMillan is the CEO of NTS Group, a company providing repair, manufacturing and rental services to the Oil & Gas sector.

Paul started his career in aviation, working for General Electric in Scotland overhauling and testing Gas Turbines. His career in Oil & Gas commenced in 2001 and has since worked for Wood Group, Weir, Petrofac before joining NTS Group in 2016 as CEO.

He was recruited by NTS to grow and develop the business and diversify its approach to machining services. Against a backdrop of year on year growth he has since led NTS through the sale to ADQ’s SENAAT / Tubacex Joint Venture in 2019 most recent the acquisition of Amega West Services by NTS in October 2020.

Paul is 47 years old. Lives in Dubai with his wife and 2 sons and has been in the Middle East since 2008.

Dr. Thana Slanvetpan currently serves as a Vice President for PTTEP and is seconded to PTTEP’s spin-off technology company “AI & Robotics Ventures” as General Manager (GM). The focus of AI & Robotics is to leverage cutting-edge AI & Robotics technology to create smart and intelligent solutions to business challenges.

Since joining PTTEP in 2005, Dr. Thana has held several technical and managerial positions and worked on a number of projects & assignments. These include positions in project management, engineering & construction, new ventures, technology development, and maintenance & inspection. He also led the development of company-wide Engineering Specification (PEGS), Project Realization Process (PREP), and Technology Development Process (TDP), all of which serves as guiding governance for PTTEP engineering design, capital project management, and technology projects, respectively.

Dr. Thana earned his BSc in Chemical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University. He also holds a MSc and Ph.D. in the same field from New Jersey Institute of Technology. His Ph.D dissertation was an application of artificial neural networks for advanced process control of a combustion system.

Etienne Roux, President of Business Development & Marketing at Weatherford International plc, re-joined the Company in 2015, holding the position of Vice President, Drilling Services and latterly President, Drilling & Evaluation before taking on his current role. Prior to returning to Weatherford, Etienne held the role of Managing Director at ALS Oil & Gas with leadership responsibility for both the Surface Logging and Coring Divisions from 2011 through 2015. Before this, he served as Regional Product Line Manager for Drilling Services, covering Europe, Caspian and Sub-Saharan Africa at Weatherford.

Preceding his time at Weatherford, he spent 10 years with Schlumberger Ltd. in various operational, technical and management roles across a wide geography; assignments included Alaska, Venezuela, Louisiana (Gulf of Mexico Operations), Houston and Brazil. He received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, where he majored in Thermo dynamics and Alternate Energy Source Utilization, while studying under a full Anglo-American Mining Scholarship.

Previously, Mr. Bell was Vice President of Drilling Tools and Remedial Services for Europe and Africa at Schlumberger based in Paris and spent 22 years with the company.

After time as a field engineer in MWD/LWD/Directional Drilling, his career spanned Operations Management positions in Central Asia, Latin America and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as General Management roles in Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Indonesia. Mr. Bell received a B.A.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and has attended Leadership and Negotiation Executive Education at Harvard Business School.

In his more than 18 years in the oil and gas industry, he has worked across the globe. Under his leadership, Weatherford gained positive offshore market share distribution in the West Coast of Sub-Sahara Africa, won the biggest wireline contract ever executed in Kuwait, and also reduced non-productive time in the complex Saudi Arabia market by 50%.

Frederico graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree with specializations in Strategic Marketing from Stanford University and an Integrated Reservoir Management degree from the Institute of Petroleum and Imperial College, London.
