Maarten Brasser, Area Manager Middle East at Seacontractors speaks to ADIPEC News about the offshore industry and its new Middle East offices

How does the company serve the oil and gas industry?

Seacontractors operates a fleet of modern vessels, well-equipped for worldwide operations. Currently, we operate a fleet of twenty-six Anchor Handling Tug (AHT) vessels and Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPV) in the range of 20-85 tons bollard pull with a focus on shallow draft operations.

One of the segments we are active in is the offshore oil and gas market. We assist during offshore and subsea construction works with our fleet of workboats consisting of; cable laying, pipe-laying, commissioning and decommissioning of rigs in the oil and gas fields.

What demand do you see for offshore support in the GCC?

Since Saudi Aramco and ADNOC launched large new offshore development projects, we expect the demand for offshore support in general in the GCC region will grow in the coming years.

With that growth, we expect that the importance of local content requirements in projects and contracts will increase. Seacontractors appreciates the value of the local culture as well as maintaining a healthy relationship with our local partners/agents, which is crucial to running operations efficiently and effectively.

How important is this region to your business? What opportunities do you see here?

The GCC region covers about 65 per cent of our worldwide fleet utilisation. Hence, this region is really important for our business. The region gives us the opportunity to expand our maritime services from workboat supplier to a wider range of maritime services such as complete project management and chartering services in the region.

What plans do you have for regional investment/expansion?

We recently opened our branch office in the Middle East, staffed by a dedicated team of qualified personnel. This helps us to operate a 24-hour service throughout the year. With the introduction of Seacontractors Middle East, we hope to serve existing and future customers even better. In the future we hope to expand with other branch offices to more GCC countries to run our operations at the place of demand. Besides expanding with branch offices, we also would like to keep expanding our fleet of workboats.

What role does ADIPEC Offshore and Marine play for your business?

ADIPEC Offshore and Marine is the perfect place for developing and improving our relationship with current partners, keeping up with the latest developments and innovations in the market and meeting potential new clients. By exhibiting at ADIPEC, we hope to gain more brand awareness in the GCC region and abroad.
