Yesterday a signing ceremony was held at the Yokogawa booth attended by executives from SBM Offshore and Yokogawa Electric Corporation to mark the beginning of a new global, cooperation framework agreement covering the supply of integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) and other automation technology by Yokogawa for SBM Offshore’s new floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs).
The event was attended by Yokogawa president and CEO, Takashi Nishijima, as well as other top executives. SBM Offshore provides fl oating production solutions to the offshore energy industry, over the full product life-cycle. The company is market leading in leased floating production systems with multiple units currently in operation and over 50 units delivered.
It has unrivalled operational experience in this fi eld with over 300 cumulative years to date. The company’s main activities are the design, supply, installation, operation and the life extension of FPSOs.
By comparison, Yokogawa has only been active as a supplier of automation technology in the marine side of the oil and gas industry for around a decade, but has already made significant inroads, supplying ICSS for 30 FPSOs during that time. Major recent technology developments include the launch of its Agile Project Execution model, and the rollout of its Network I/O, a versatile fi eld device that can handle multiple types of I/O signals.
The combination of these capabilities and technologies lets Yokogawa change the way projects are planned and executed, allowing for cost-efficiencies and the earlier shipment of systems. The cooperation framework agreement is the first of its kind between the two parties.
It will provide a foundation that enables SBM Offshore and Yokogawa’s headquarters and network of regional offices to collaborate efficiently on the development, delivery and servicing of potential projects, regardless of their location.
Koji Nakaoka, Yokogawa Vice President and Head of Global Sales and Industrial Marketing commented: “SBM Offshore is the perfect partner for Yokogawa as we continue to bring our decades of experience in automation of process plants to the offshore industry. We look forward to co-innovating with them to find new ways of optimising customer CAPEX and OPEX without comprising on safety, quality, and reliability.”
