Innovation and Excellence Celebrated at the 2018 ADIPEC Awards

Innovations from Saudi Aramco, BP Oman and NET Power have been named winners in this year’s ADIPEC Awards, while Mubadala Petroleum has been recognised for its social contribution, and a young Saudi Aramco engineer, Shamael Al-Shuhail, has been named Young ADIPEC Engineer of the Year.

Announced at a gala dinner at Abu Dhabi’s prestigious Emirates Palace Hotel on Monday, 12 November, the ADIPEC Awards are a highlight of the world’s leading oil and gas industry event, the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC). They celebrate achievement and accomplishment in the industry, and recognise the leading companies, individuals, initiatives, projects and technologies that have displayed a level of excellence on an international scale.

Shamael Al Shuhail, Young ADIPEC Engineer of the Year, said: “Winning this award is a great honour. The ADIPEC Awards are among the most prestigious in the region, and just to be a finalist is a great honour. The awards open up many new opportunities, and the Young ADIPEC Engineer of the Year award encourages us to reach our potential and to set higher goals for ourselves.”

Across six award categories, companies are given an opportunity to be recognised, and ultimately awarded, for their accomplishments within the areas of research, technological innovation, digital transformation, performance and efficiency, social contributions, personal achievement and business progression.

Digital Transformation Project of the Year

- BP Oman

- Transforming the Khazzan Giant Gas Field: Machine Learning to Optimise Production

 

Social Contribution and In-Country Value Project of the Year

- Mubadala Petroleum

- Innovative school and Community Development and Empowerment Program in Thailand

Bill Brown, CEO of NET Power, said: “This is an international recognition of years of hard work to produce an energy technology that will allow the world to meet every climate target, at a price the whole world can afford. Everyone realises that this is the pre-eminent conference of its type in the world and it represents the entire span of the energy industry.”

Dr Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of Mubadala Petroleum, said: “We are pleased to receive this year’s award and being recognized for our program in Thailand, which also reflects Mubadala Petroleum’s overall approach and commitment to CSR and community investment in the countries where we operate. The ADIPEC Awards received 488 entries from 33 countries, showcasing the international appeal of the Awards. 

Entries were evaluated by the ADIPEC Awards Jury, composed of 34 leading energy experts from across the industry, including from National Oil Companies (NOCs), International Oil Companies (IOCs) and academic institutions. Dr Saif Sultan Al Nasseri, CEO, ADNOC Gas Processing is the 2018 Awards Chairman.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC); and supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Abu Dhabi Chamber, and the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, ADIPEC is taking place from 12 to 15 November 2018, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
